About this object

Savonnerie rug in soft rose, blue, golden yellow and beige. In the center is a large oval medallion containing a smaller one in its center and around it four faces alternating with four flaming torches, framed by acanthus leaf scrolls. The large medallion is within a shaped rectangle with indented corners and sides in each corner of which is a pair of ram’s heads. There is a large cartouche on each side and a blue circle at each end of the rectangle. At each end of the rug is a large round medallion in rose monochrome containing a winged figure, one with military attributes, the other writing the initial L on an oval shield. At each corner of the rug is a large acanthus leaf scroll in multicolor on a dark brown ground. Border consists of a row of red and yellow lozenges and blue leaves, and interlace and a plain blue band at the edge.
