About this object

The rectangular box is made of six pieces of tortoise shell. The body of the box is plain, with rounded corners. The cover is inlaid in the center with an elaborate cartouche made from gold, silver and brass, with a space intended for initials. The edges of the cover are inlaid with two bands, the inner one in gold, the outer one in silver. There is a thumbpiece for opening the box.
