About this object

The round tortoise shell box has a detachable cover. The cover is pique in gold in the center with Oriental looking buildings and trees which are surrounded by a border of leaves alternating with tiny stars. The sides are pique in the same metal with scenes of ruins alternating with butterflies. On the bottom is another landscape encircled with a necklace of quatrefoils. The edges of the lid are covered in gold.
