About this object

The shell cameos represent: Maria Nikolaevna 1819-1876), daughter of Nicholas I, her husband Maximilian, Duke of Leuchtenberg (1817-1852) and their eldest son, Nicholas (1843-1891). They are all bust sized, facing to the left. The frames surrounding the cameos are all slightly different. Maria's and Maximilian's cameos are surrounded with gold scrolls enamelled in blue and white, while the scrolls around yound Nicholas's miniature are enamelled in turquoise and set with three rubies. .
