About this object

The shell cameos represent Maria Nikolaevna (1819-1876), daughter of Nicholas I, her husband Maximilian, Duke of Leuchtenberg (1817-1852) and their eldest son, Nicholas (1843-1891). They are all bust sized, facing to the left. The frames surrounding the cameos are all slightly different. Maria's and Maximilian's cameos are surrounded with gold scrolls enameled in blue and white, while the scrolls around young Nicholas' miniature are enameled in turquoise and set with three rubies.
