About this object

Cover is carved in center in simulation of a medal with bust of Catherine II facing right. Her hair is elaborately dressed with curls at sides and she wears both a small crown and a laurel wreath. Over her dress is an ermine robe. Interoir of cover is engraved with a representation of falconet's equestrian statue of Peter the Great together with the great rock on which is stands and the fence around it. Rest of box plain except for turning on the bottom inside box. Interior sides are lined with tortoise shell.
