About this object

The frame is made from tortoise shell which is tan with dark brown splotches. At the edge is a row of brass nail heads which are flush with the surface. There are three incised stars at each corner, and an oval indentation in the center. This is surrounded by an inner metal frame decorated with a vine scroll. This holds a piece of glass, underneath which is a painted miniatute of a woman. She is standing three quarters length and wearing an Italian Renaissance costume. The back is solid.
