About this object

Hinged black lacquer box decorated with a scene in bright colors of a king just dismounted from his horse and greeting his queen at the entrance to the palace. This is most likely a scene from one of Pushkin's fairy tales such as "Tale of Tsar Saltan." The lacquer has "crawled" on the surface in a manner typical of Palekh lacquers in the 1930s.
