About this object

Hinged box is lacquered red on the exterior. On the cover is scene of a troika driving along the sandy shore of a lake or river. Seated in the troika are the driver and two women in peasant costume, one of whom looks off into the distance. The interior is lined with silver leaf. The scene is somewhat confusingly painted -- the driver is dressed for winter while his two passengers wear summer clothing.
