About this object

The box is rectangular in shape. The outside of the box is lacquered in Chinese red. In the center of the cover is an oval miniature of a woman seen in 3/4 length nursing a child who wears a blue ribbon similar to that of an order. The miniature is set in a narrow gold frame with beading. The thumb piece is in gold. The lower part of the interior of the box is made in tortoise shell which is divided into one long compartment in the front for brushes and two smaller compartments with covers at the back for rouge. Inside the cover is a mirror with a gold border. On the bottom of the box is a small gold medallion.
