About this object

The black, rectangular box is hinged and is covered with a fine fretwork of alternating stars and silver in inlaid silver. The pattern is framed on the top and sides with a row of tightly arranged circles. A larger star, clusters of circles and arabesques are inlaid on the cover to indicate the side that opens. The interior is lacquered to imitate tortoiseshell.
