About this object

This ornately carved and painted wooden frame, with an easel-style backing board covered in brown velevet, contains a black and white signed photograph of Adelaide Brevoort Close, ca. 1935. The image, which appears to have been taken in a photographer's studio, shows Adelaide from bust level seated, leaning back against a chair upholstered in tapestry. She is wearing a dark, v-neck dress with a single strand of pearls; her hair is jaw level and covers her ears. A newspaper fragment stuck to the inside of the backing board shows an advertisement for General Electric radios, listing store addresses in New York, NY.
