About this object

The pine paneling is made from old pine, finished in an antique manner with all carvings and ornamentation carved from the solid. It has three broken pediments, one over each fdoor and the third over the mantelpiece. There is a semi-dome at the top of a carved semi-circular niche and spandrels carved in relief with leaf and flower scrolls. The niche is a bookcase set in the paneling. The cornice has medallions below which is a band of molding with an egg and dart motif separated by rosettes. Above this is a band of stylized leaves next to the ceiling. Framing the portrait over the mantel are swags of flowers and leaves hanging from rings in the mouths of lions heads. There is a piece of carved drapery with tassels which hang at either side. There is a bead and reel carved molding edge over the doorways and the projecting mantel areas.
