About this object

The round box has a cover which is detachable. The box is made in ebony lined with shell and lacquered on the interior bottom. The cover is set with a repoussé medallion in gold or gilt metal representing Napoleon and five members of his family. Counter clock-wise from the lower left are Napoléon, Emperor Francis II of Hungary and Bohemia (Francis I of Austria, 1804) and father of Marie Louise, his wife, Empress Marie Louise, Letizia Bonaparte "Madame Mére", mother of Napoleon, and Napoleon's son the King of Rome in the center. They are bust size and all face to the right. The women wear elaborate Egyptian style headresses, and earrings. The men wear uniforms.
