About this object

The oblong box is carved in the shape of a galleon without sails. The cover is made in two parts which are hinged at the center. The rear cover is carved with military trophies, including a saddle, a rifle and a sword. The front one is carved with a sentry holding a rifle to stop an approaching man behind a wall. At the right is a sentry box, and in the background is an open leaf scroll design. At the rear of the ship is a half circle that projects above the ship and perhaps resembles a rudder. The sides of the ship are decorated with small squares and circles to resemble portholes. The front end is pointed.
