About this object

Pictured on front is a view in Japanese style of south facade of mansion and selected motifs from different parts of the grounds, in soft shades of brick red, green, grey and white, painted with thick pigment on a shiny black lacquered ground. Scene is bordered by two narrow bands cut into lacquer and painted salmon pink, outlining scrolls and flower heads. On back is a broad band at top of flower clusters with butterflies and at outer edge the same narrow band as on the front.
