About this object

The high narrow back of the chair ends in a scroll. Below it is a shaped shield enclosing the winged lion of St. Mark holding a book. Below that are two scrolls enclosing rosettes. Two rails descend from the back to form arms which end in grotesque animal heads with open mouths. The curved back and seat are carved with leaf scrolls in low relief. It stands on four straight splayed legs ending in scrolls with a bulbous center piece as a stretcher.
