About this object

The chair has a moveable back and seat. The back is very ornate. It is carved with the bust of a winged female at the top and is flanked by winged satyrs. In the center is a round medallion with the bust of a man facing to the left. On each side of the back are dogs. Below the medallion is a winged lion mask and there are grotesque animal heads at the sides. There is a winged cherub on each arm which ends in a lion head. The seat is rectangular and incised with a pair of chimeras. The sides are formed of seven curved slats. The trestle legs are also made from seven slats that form an X shape with the seat. The central part of the X has a mask carved in front. The feet are also carved with masks.
