About this object

The seat of the rocking chair is upholstered in tooled leather. At the top of the back is a face of a putto which is beneath a palmette ending in scrolls. The back is a panel carved in low relief with a central medallion that is an oval of beads containing a sailboat. It is flanked by fantastic birds. The carved arms end in scrolls at both ends. On each side is carved a a walking lion. The rockers end with the heads of putti at the front and have scrolls in the back. There is a turned stretcher in the front, and eight shaped stretchers going from front to back.
