Marjorie Merriweather Post purchased this mahogany, Louis XVI-style grand piano from Steinway & Sons in Manhattan on February 13, 1924.

The piano case features a checkerboard marquetry pattern with carved decoration, gilt details, and oval painted medallions in grisaille with classical female figures on a blue ground. It has three elaborate double shaft legs in carved gilt wood.
