About this object

The seat of the sidechair, which is slightly smaller than the armchair is decorated with the same three large flowers found on the table top, in the typical Khokhloma colors of gold, black, brown, and green on a red ground. The gold flowers themselves are painted on a brown ground with yellow and red highlights and black shading. The flowers are joined by an elaborate leaf and vine ornament on a partially black, but mostly red ground. The back has a swag of a flower and berries up the central splat and a leaf design acros the top rail. Interlocked scrolls in gold and black run across the bottom rail of the back. A gold interlace pattern on a black ground runs along the skirt.
