Creator(s): Unknown (Cabinet Maker)

On view in: Dining Room

About this object

The shape is rectangular with curved sides. Four projecting square blocks with a carved rosette mark the position of each leg. The wooden skirt has a continuous wooden frieze edged with gild bands and is carved with a grapevine scroll in gold against a white ground. This is interrupted in the center by a projecting semicircle filled with a laurel wreath with a ribbon in its center. The top edge consists of a continuous band with a Kymation motif and beading. From the lower edge hang gilt swags of laurel branches carved in the round. The four straight, tapered legs are channeled in the middle with an urn shaped motif with acanthus foot at the top. The top is a slab of blueish-grey variegated marble, which follows the outline of the table.
