About this object

The drop-front is square and set with a round medallion edged with a band of gilt bronze leaves and beading, this contains a wide area in marquetry of trellis enclosing single cornflowers, the center is covered with an oval porcelain plaque painted with a Teniers-like landscape in grisaille, the four spandrels have each a spray of cornflowers in marquetry. The top of the secretary, which has curved sides, has a slab of grayish marble edged with an openwork railing in gilt bronze, below this are three sections of openwork vine scrolls in gilt bronze, each curved side has three small recessed shelves, each with railing, the interior of each recess is faced with stained black and green striped marquetry. A drawer under the drop-front is faced with the same trellis with cornflowers; at the key hole is a large rosette of acanthus leaves; on either side is a small urn on a pedestal in low relief in gilt bronze; the four legs are square and straight and taper downward. Inside there are three tiers of drawers venereed with striped marquetry stained black and green, surmounted by three cubby holes.
