Creator(s): Pioniez (Attributed to)

On view in: French Drawing Room

About this object

All sides of this oblong-shaped table are slightly convex. The front is fitted with a drawer on the frieze, and a door which opens to reveal three additional drawers. The top is covered with marquetry in a pattern of wavy lines linked together to form ovals, each enclosing a quatrefoil. This pattern also covers a door on the front and the sides. The frieze drawer on the front is faced with a marquetry pattern of dark wavy lines enclosing stylized tulip blossoms. This pattern continues along the sides and back. The back panel has a single spray of flowers on a plain ground. The cabriole legs taper to leafy sabots, and have jutting knees topped by two bold volutes, those on the front and back of the table enclosing discs. The knees are mounted with pendant bell flowers. The corners of the table have large ornaments composed of a laurel swag, an acanthus leaf and pendant, and bell flowers.
