About this object

With a rectangular top fitted with three front drawers and a small writing pad above them, standing on four cabriole legs. The top has a slightly wavy edge, and is covered with a marquetry panel representing a basket of mixed flowers framed by a wide band in darker wood enclosing a long wavy vine with flowers and leaves. All four sides have marquetry panels roughly oval with irregular edges. The one on the front and the one on the back contain baskets of flowers like the one on the top, while those on the narrow sides contain vases of flowers. Around each panels are four little detached shaped corners with a scale motif. Each corner bears a foliate mount in gilt bronze, and the sides have gilt bronze handles, the one on the right opens a drawer, the one on the left is purely ornamental. The cabriole legs are edged with metal bands and taper to leafy sabots.
