ORNAMENTAL VASE REPRESENTING "WINTER"

Creator(s): Meissen Porcelain Manufactory (Manufacturer)

About this object

The theme of the decoration of the vase is winter. At the top are orange flames. To the left sits a putto wearing a hooded cape in turquoise lined with fur. He is holding a brazier of coals in his left hand. To the right protrudes a speckled bird, which turns its head towards its back and forms a circle with its outspread wings. In the center is a rounded medallion with a painted scene of a man adjusting a woman's shoe in a winter landscape. All over the vase are molded rococo scrolls touched with gold and mauve pink. It stands on a high foot which is also decorated. The vase may also represent fire as one of the four elements.
