About this object

The cachepot has two scenes, one with a couple in peasant dress near a signpost with a house in the distance. The man is wearing a long striped shi rt with a vest over rose-colored pantaloons and high black boots. He also wears a black cap and looks like a character out of Fiddler on the Roof. The woman has on a white blouse and apron with a rust-colored skirt. In the other scene two women are peeking around the corner of a building, watching a couple talking or embracing(?). There is a house behind the wall. On the left side of the scene is another house. The scenes go around the body of the piece. They are not framed as would have been normal in this period. A chain of blue bachelor buttons with green leaves forms a border around the lip of the pot. Small molded handles in white with gilded leaf details are on either side of the pot.
