About this object

The vases have a bulbous center, a slender foot and a round lid. Around the center of each vase amid trees are classical figures. They carry instruments and may represent the nine muses. On each cover is a seated classical figure probably Apollo. Below the classical figures is a row of classical symbols and below these is a row of leaves. The vases stand on a round pedestal foot. About the square base is a row of acroteria.
