About this object
The vases are urn-shaped with covers. The plinth and pedestal are marbleized in a grayish color with decoration in gold. The lower section of the body of the urn is partly marbleized and partly decorated in gold simulating channeling. Next is a rinceau of grape vines and grapes in relief and in natural colors against a brown ground. Above these each vase has a continuous scene painted around the center. The curved portion above is painted on each side with a coat of arms supported by two eagles holding a swag of flowers. The handles are clusters of grapes in gold. The covers have the crest of the family on each side, two large bunches of grapes with leaves in high relief and gilded and a pine cone shaped handle with grape leaves and grapes in colors against a gold ground. Other vase has Bacchus and Ariadne riding in a chariot and accompanied by Bacchantes and Satyrs and Bacchus arriving on the island of Naxos with Ariadne seated at the left, accompanied by satyrs.
