PLATE

Creator(s): Iusupov Porcelain Workshop (Manufacturer)

On view in: Russian Porcelain Room

About this object

In center of the plate are two stems displaying two circular, very full blooms of a light pink Old Garden Rose set against dark green and light green ovate leaves. Above this are two smaller, incipient blooms and two buds. Small fine thorns are apparent on the stems. Two small drops of water are visible on the leaves below the large bloom on the left. The border is decorated with a complicated pattern in gilt. The cavetto is encircled by a narrow gilt band followed by a wide gilt band. Surrounding this is a decorative "chain" punctuated with three tiny gold balls, similar to the Iusupov Workshop series based on Redouté's roses (See Notes). The inner half of the rim has been left unpainted and on the outer half is a decorative chain of leaves (on the inside) and leaves (on the outside). The chain of leaves and buds is set within two narrow gilt bands and wide gilt band is painted on the outermost edge.
