About this object
From the Etruscan Service made for the Pavilion Tsaritsyn at Peterhof. Decorated in the "Pompeian style," the background being a version of Pompeian red, and the border of a rinceau with palmettes all in black. The figures are black and their clothes and accessories in a different red. .1 A young man sacrificing at an altar, .2 a young woman spinning, .3 a young woman carrying a box, .4 a young woman standing and speaking to a seated figure with wings (Cupid?), .5 a woman holding a mirror and basket with three-legged stand beside her. The subjects were probably adapted from a book with illustrations of black figured Greek vases.
