PLATE WITH VIEW OF THE GREAT CASCADE AT PAVLOVSK

Made by: Imperial Porcelain Factory

On view in: Russian Porcelain Room

About this object

The center of the plate is decorated with a printed scene of the Great Cascade at Pavlovsk. The bridge that is visible is probably not the Cast Iron Bridge designed by Rossi in 1823. A classical sculpture on a tall pedestal is visible in the distance on the right. The scene is surrounded by a series of borders: a solid gold border, followed by a slightly mottled pink translucent glaze border, and finally a laurel leaf border in gold on a white ground along the rim.
