PLATE VIEW OF SENATE SQUARE

Creator(s): Imperial Porcelain Factory (Manufacturer)

On view in: Russian Porcelain Room

About this object

The center of the plate is decorated with a printed scene of the Monument to Peter I (the so-called Bronze Horseman) on Senate Square looking toward the Senate Building and the old St. Isaac's Cathedral. Families and couples are walking or riding through the square in carriages and wagons and a street vendor talks to a couple in the lower right. Around this is a series of gold borders, followed by a pink translucent glaze that is slightly mottled. Outside of this is wide band of continuous laurel leaves on a white ground.
