About this object

The ground is white; molded gilt strap-like bands encircle the top edge of the pot and descend to acanthus leaves on four scrolled feet; on front and back of the pot is a medallion painted with large clusters of flowers and fruit in natural color; a medallion under each of the two handles is painted with garden tools; the lid and the oval tray each have four medallions like those on the pot and the platter, in addition, a central medallion depicting a watering can among other gardening motifs; the scrolled handles have gilt molded acanthus and laurel leaves.

Signature marks:
MARK The platter and pot were originally marked with the crossed L's, the crown and a date letter in gold, now almost entirely effaced. Each piece is also marked 2000 in gold for the gilder Henry-Francois Vincent the Younger (1753-1806). The marks were probably obliterated during the French Revolution. .6 (platter) with Bo incised- for Bono (Etienne-Henry), soft paste repairer (see also 24.134.3 and vase 24.15.3).
