About this object

A pale pink ground highlighted with gold rococo scrolls and areas of white decorated with polychrome flowers distinguishes this elaborate dessert service. The service pieces are elaborately gilded with contrasting areas of matte and burnished gold and foliate and marine motifs in relief. Dolphins, shells, and acanthus leaves form the supports and bases of these pieces. The two-tier fruit stand consists of a large and small plate connected by a cylindrical stem molded with foliate motifs in gold. The large plate rests on a broad base molded with similar decoration supported by four feet in the shape of dolphin's heads.
