About this object

A pale pink ground highlighted with gold rococo scrolls and areas of white decorated with polychrome flowers distinguishes this elaborate dessert service. The service pieces are elaborately gilded with contrasting areas of matte and burnished gold and foliate and marine motifs in relief. Dolphins, shells, and acanthus leaves from the supports and bases of these pieces. The bottom of the dish consists of an open basket in shiny gold; the flaring rim is scalloped at the top edge; the outside has six panels reserved in white each containing a cluster of flowers, and flanked by small sections of lattice and floral sprays raised in gold.The triangular base is narrow at the top and flares down to three feet shaped like curled acanthus leaves with a dolphin in the round in matt gold attached to each foot.
