About this object

A pale pink ground highlighted with gold rococo scrolls and areas of white decorated with polychrome flowers distinguishes this elaborate dessert service. The service pieces are elaborately gilded with contrasting areas of matte and burnished gold and foliate and marine motifs in relief. Dolphins, shells, and acanthus leaves from the supports and bases of these pieces. The basin is round and shallow. The sides are covered with raised gold laurel leaves and berries. The slightly domed cover has four panels reserved in white containing clusters of flowers and a hole for a spoon. The triangular base is narrow at the top and flares down to three feet shaped like curled acanthus leaves with a dolphin in the round in matt gold attached to each foot.
