About this object

A pale pink ground highlighted with gold rococo scrolls and areas of white decorated with polychrome flowers distinguishes this elaborate dessert service. The service pieces are elaborately gilded with contrasting areas of matte and burnished gold and foliate and marine motifs in relief. Dolphins, shells, and acanthus leaves from the supports and bases of these pieces. The rim of the dish, somewhat flared, has three panels reserved in white containing clusters of flowers, and flanked by sections of lattice and floral sprays in raised gold on a pale pink ground; the base, narrow at the top, flares down to three feet shaped like curled acanthus leaves, with a dolphin in the round, head down, in matte gold, attached above each foot; the areas between in between are in plain pale pink with raised leaf scrolls in matte gold.
