About this object

The upper third of the bowl of the tumbler is engraved with views of the monuments on St. Petersburg's Vasilievskii Island. In the center are Thomas de Thomon's Stock Exchange between the Rostral Columns and the granite semi-circular park leading to the Neva embankment. The Kunstkamera is visible in the left background and another building can be seen at right. The mast of a tall ship is also visible in the left background. On the opposite side of the bowl are the engraved Cyrillic initials “N.A.Kh.” surrounded by swags or branches. The initials are less well engraved than the landscape. The lowest third of the tumbler is cut in a heavy diamond pattern and the underside is cut in a sunburst pattern.
