GOBLET WITH LID

Creator(s): Unknown (Manufacturer)

On view in: Russian Porcelain Room

About this object

The conical bowl is decorated with an engraved cipher of Catherine II under the imperial crown on one side and the imperial eagle on the opposite side. Floral motifs decorate the spaces between. Some sign of cold-painted gold is still apparent on the eagle's wings. The stem has two faceted knops (one proper and one inverted baluster). The interior of the stem is decorated with interlaced white threads surrounding a red thread in the center. Base is plain. The lid now assigned to this goblet is made considerably thicker than the glass in the bowl or foot. The color of the glass is nearly identical as are the floral motifs. The top of the lid is decorated only with red twists.
