About this object

The lip of the goblet is cut in and completely gilded. On front of the bowl is an oval medallion in white glass with a gilt edge containing the cipher of Alexander I topped by the imperial crown. Below this is the inscription: "Paris was taken 19 March. Peace was granted to France and all rejoiced May 18, 1814." The bowl of the glass is ornately cut. A thin band at the top is cut in a diamond pattern followed by a clear area. Below this is a wide band of vertical cuts with a fin-shaped profile and a second clear zone. A series of horizontal cuts with a fin-shaped profile end the bowl. A knop-like device where the bowl meets the stem is cut like a faceted wreath. Stem is eight sided and knop is faceted. The foot is cut in pie crust like outline and is smooth on the underside.
