About this object

The flat, polished rim is gilded on its top and sides. The bottle's neck is cut in eleven even facets, these continuing onto the shoulder where they flare outward. Below this are two stepped facets about the body. The remainder of the body is cut in a very fine diamond pattern, while the front is polished and decorated with a raised white glass medallion gilded about the edge. The medallion bears an inscription in gilt (“Rejoice Moscow! Paris has been taken by the Russians, March 19, 1814”) under the cipher of Alexander I below a crown, all in tooled gilt. The stopper's rounded top is cut in a diamond pattern and the edges are gilded.
