About this object

On one face of the conical bowl is engraved the Russian imperial eagle with unusually lush wings together with the cipher of the Tsarina Anna Ivanovna within a simple medallion. (Note: The orb and scepter are reversed, possibly because of an artisan's copying from an engraved source.) This is all in gold. Around the rest of the upper part of the bowl is engraved a scroll design with three trefoils also in gold. Below this decoration is engraved a series of arches whose "columns" are made up of a series of half-circles. The baluster stem is faceted and decorated wtih two small bladed knops followed by a small proper knop above a large inverted baluster knop. The stem ends in a small bladed knop. Only the inverted baluster knop is faceted. Base is engraved with three sprays of leaves with flowers, now darkened. This was probably gilded at some point. The glass has a light brownish-grey cast similar to 23.14 and 23.16.1.
