About this object

The panel across the top under the shelf is carved in low relief with a medallion in the center enclosing the interlaced initials LP of Louis Philippe, King of France. Surrounding and flanking this are circles formed of an interlaced vine and a crimpled ribbon, and a rosette at either end. The side supports are each carved with a pilaster tapered downward, with spiraling channeling and acanthus leaves on the capitals.
