About this object

The seal is carved from a piece of red and green riband jasper (this variety of jasper is commonly called Siberian jasper.) It resembles a rectangular column ending in a pyramidal form. Below the pointed end is a square collar. The base is cylinder shaped. The base has been cut and the entire piece has been polished.

NAME: Nikolai Aleksandrovich "Sokolov" [Inscribed on base, underside] In Cyrillic caps, the first name and patronymic being arched around the rim and separated by a star or asterisk. The surname, in contrasting style of type, is inscribed across the width of the base.
