About this object
The seal is carved from sardonyx, a chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) of brown and white. This sample includes deep orange-brown (sard) with streaks of creamy white (onyx), light orange, and a pale, milky blue-white. It is shaped like a tall urn set on a smooth pedestal foot. The sides are facetted and taper out toward the top. There is channeling near the top. The round base is cut.
