About this object
The agate bowl is oval and smoothly carved. It is attached to a silver base. Under the bowl is a leaf scroll made in silver with traces of gilt. The stem is in the shape of an African man with his arms uplifted to support the bowl, like Atlas. He is wearing a feathered skirt, and a necklace. He is kneeling on a cushion with four tassels and chased scrolls. The cushion forms the bottom of the base.
