About this object

Large sections of lapis were pieced onto an iron rod to create a lapis lazuli column that tapers upward toward a carved Ionic capital. A winged figure of victory in gilt bronze stands on the globe on the top of each capital. She supports a crown, decorated with a vine scroll, to which six candle holders are attached. The bases, with acanthus leaf ornaments, rest on four lion-paw feet.
