About this object

The colors and textures of this jade and gold Cartier frame highlight the miniature portrait of Hillwood's founder, Marjorie Merriweather Post (21.138.2). Painted by F. Enid Stoddard, the miniature features Post in the gown that she wore to the Court of St. James in 1929--a dress made by the Paris fashion house Callot Soeurs (48.64.1-2).

The miniature is of Marjorie Merriweather Post in court dress. The frame is in jade carved with a leaf motif in openwork. This is mounted in an inner frame of gold with white enamel bands that is around the miniature. There is a long oval green jade piece in each corner mounted with a white enamel border and set with tiny diamonds. Post is seated on a chair and is seen full length. She holds a closed fan in her lap and looks to the right.
