About this object

The box is rectangular. The cover and base are each made of a single piece of banded agate as well as the shorter ends. The front and back are each made from two pieces of agate. These pieces have a vertical strip of metal connecting them. The frame is made in copper gilt and has a cross-hatched decoration. The feet are round agate balls and are connected to the box with vertical bars that look like large screws.
